Big Four Summer Transfer Special '08

Added: 02.07.2008 00:26
Premier League 08/09
As the new Premier League season fast approaches, many teams will now be in a hurry to strengthen their squad with new talent, and get rid of the Emile Heskey of the team. The only team who will want to keep their Heskey is actually Wigan.
Let’s take a run through Dan’s summary on the “Big Four” of who needs to go, and who needs to come in

Arsenal - Ok, so we all know that Wenger has the money to make the big-money signings. In the past he has chosen to plot the downfall of the other big 3 with canny low-budget signings while chuckling happily to himself at his unnerving intelligence. However this time round, he has already stated his intention to sign Samir Nasri and with that move expected to be completed soon, he will probably try to bring one or two more new faces in to the club.

Nasri will add a great deal of creativity to Arsenal's Midfield

He needs centre backs badly and it wouldn’t surprise me if he splashed the cash for a top-class defender.

Dan’s recommended transfer: John Mensah. One of Ligue 1’s best defenders and has an excellent build for the premier league, bulkier than one of Thaksin Shinawatra’s brown paper envelopes. Plays for Rennes. Estimated cost: 7M£
Who should they get rid of?
Nobody, the squad is thin as it is now, and they can’t afford to let anyone else leave. If another big player leaves it will be more disastrous than a Boumsong-Bramble centre-back partnership

Chelsea - New boss Luiz Felipe “Felipao” Scolari has already brought in Deco from Barcelona although they don’t really need him. This makes one think that it is paving the way for a big-money Frank Lampard move to re-unite him with his daddy José. Drogba will sort out his future once he returns from Cote D’ivoire.
He was opening his own school of deep-sea diving, in collaboration with Steven Gerrard. They need a top-class striker and a set of wingers. Quaresma “has signed for a big club” according to himself, and it just might be Chelsea. Robinho is rumoured to be on the way for a huge 27M£. But what they need the most is a consistent forward who will get them goals.

Dan’s recommended transfer: David Villa. The Spaniard finished Euro 2008 as top-scorer and his performances over the course of the tournament were of the highest quality. Club: Valencia. Estimated Fee: 27M£

Villa's potent finishing could push Chelsea towards the title

Who should they get rid of? Some fringe players like Shaun Wright-Phillips, Anelka, Tal Ben Haim, Makelele and probable should cash in on Lampard and Drogba too.
It’s gonna be a busy summer for Chelsea on the transfer front

Liverpool - Benitez has a terrible habit of buying second-tier players for exuberant amounts of money and does more impulse buying than an 18 year old girl with a blank cheque. This time round I think he will stick to the tried and tested… I’ve heard rumours of Maxi Rodriguez moving to anfield and I think he could finally be a successful winger for the Merseyside Reds or if you’re not a Pro Evo fan simply Liverpool.

The Reds have more worthless wingers than Newcastle could want and players like Jermaine Pennant could soon get their get-out-of jail free card and be released to smaller clubs such as Portsmouth and West Ham to reduce the wage bill. Harry Kewell will go too, and Rafa will be desperate for an influx of big-money moves backed by Hicks and Gillette. The club desperately needs centre-backs.

Dan’s Recommended transfer: Richard Dunne. Estimated Value: 8M£ . He may not want to move but could be tempted if the money is right. Has been voted Man City’s player of the year for the last 2 years running. Also Ricardo Quaresma would be a welcome addition to the pile of below-par wingers at the club. Estimated Value: 20M£

Who wouldn't like to see the skill of Quaresma in the premiership?

Who should they get rid of? The following: Hyppia, Benayoun, Pennant, Voronin (Pay somebody to take him, he’s that bad), Kewell, cash in on Alonso and buy someone good.

Manchester United - With Ronaldo attracting all the attention around Old Trafford not much else has been reported on the transfer side of things. They need to get a good replacement up front as Saha isn’t up to it anymore. They also need a an attacking midfielder. Will Malcolm Glaze over these hard facts and be reluctant to pay out, or will Ferguson be allowed to bandy about some money to improve an already-impressive United side?

Dan’s Recommended transfer: Klass-Jan Huntelaar and Rafael Van Der Vaart. These Dutch wonderkids would cost a lot of money but they would be well worth it. Huntelaar would be a great back-up for Tevez and Rooney and Van Der Vaart can come straight into the side instead of Ryan Giggs who is on his last legs. Estimated Value for Huntelaar: 20M£
For Van Der Vaart: 15M£

Who should they get rid of?: Luis Saha, Gary Neville. They are constantly injured and not needed anymore. More importantly Cristiano Ronaldo. If a player thanks his club for honing his incredible talent and giving him total offensive freedom on the pitch by indulging himself in a long transfer saga whila laughing to himself in Barbados, he deserves to be sold. Forget about him Fergie, he doesn’t want to play for United anymore. Sell him for 80M and buy the aforementioned Huntelaar and Van Der Vaart

Van der Vaart would be instrumental in assisting Tevez and Rooney, but HSV are reluctant to sell
