Top 10 African players at the moment

1. Samuel Eto'o - The guy has absolutely everything you could ask for in a striker and it's still my opinion that he is the very best striker on the planet at the moment despite his injury problems lately. Pace, power, eye for every type of goal, creator, second striker, poacher... The man has it all and it still baffles me as to why Pep doesn't want him, it has to be something to do with his attitude because talent wise he's more than good enough.
2. Didier Drogba - When the guy isn't flopping around, mouthing off or generally being a pain in the tit he is practically unstoppable, like Eto'o he has everything to his game but perhaps isn't as prolific but is more of a handful for any defence in the world on his own. Probably the ultimate big game player, he more often than not puts in a shift upfront on his own but is ultimately a better player in a strikeforce.
3. Michael Essien - Tactically as flexible as a Stretch Armstrong, can literally play anywhere and do a fantastic job, unbelievable stamina and forceful running from midfield coupled with a solid technique and the ability to ghost past players with the ball at his feat with brute force.
4. Yaya Toure - First time I saw him for Cote d'Ivoire I was impressed, when I saw him more for Monaco I was astounded, the guys technical level is better than he is given credit for and physically he is as imposing as most midfielders. Glad he got a big move and it seems he has grabbed the hearts of the Cules too despite Barca's relatively poor season.
5. Frederic Kanoute - Found a new lease of life in Spain where his superb touch and vision as well as his ability to find space in the box with a late run was used to it's full potential. Tough choice between Adebayor and Kanoute for the 5th spot
6. Emmanuel Adebayor - Has the ability to fill in a few roles for Arsenal that were left open due to the departure of Bergkamp and Henry, a good player with his back to goal but also incredibly quick for a big man so can work the channels and get into the box as well. Adds a different dimension to Arsenal's attack with his height and aerial ability too.
7. Kolo Toure - Fantastic defender who's athletical edge helps him tremendously but he also reads the game better than any other African defender i've seen personally, another versatile player too who has solid technique.
8. Seydou Keita - First time I saw him was for Lens in their UEFA Cup run and he was superb, great range of passing to go with his unbelievable physical presence and it was no surprise to see him being snatched up and for him to make a huge impression on people who saw him for Sevilla.
9. Mohammed Aboutreika - Truly stunning player and I have no doubt if I got to see a lot more of him he'd be much, much further up in my list but as it is I don't get to catch too much Egyptian football these days. Has all the attributes of a true #10, superb balance and poise on the ball, vision and technique of a top notch player and an eye for goal.
10. Jean II Makoun - Fantastic deeplying midfielder who sweeps up all the danger for Lille and Cameroon whilst also offering a goal threat despite his diminutive size from set pieces. Finally getting his big move this Summer and I have no doubt he'll rise to the occasion.
